Amber jewellery and rare souvenirs with a story worth keeping

Amber Rocket is a small Tokyo gallery for collectors: natural amber products, antiques with documented history, and vintage decor chosen piece by piece, plus honest advice on caring for every item you take home.

Our Gallery

Where amber, history and good taste meet

Every amber piece, antique and vintage object in our gallery is inspected by hand, researched for its origin and photographed before it is offered. We would rather sell fewer, better items than fill shelves with reproductions.

Why Amber Rocket

A collector's standard for every piece

Four rules guide what earns a place on our shelves, whether it is a single amber bead or a nineteenth-century mantel clock.

Natural amber only

Every amber item is checked with UV light, a saltwater float test and a hot-needle test before it is listed. Pressed, reconstructed or plastic "amber" never makes it into the collection, and every piece is labelled with its origin and type.

Researched provenance

Antiques arrive with as much history as we can uncover: maker marks, period, region and previous owners where records survive. You receive a written provenance card with every purchase, so the story travels with the object.

Gentle restoration

We clean, stabilise and conserve rather than over-restore. Original patina, wear and repairs that tell a story are kept intact, because collectors value an honest object more than a perfectly polished one.

Honest descriptions

Condition notes list every chip, crack and replaced part in plain language, with close-up photographs on request. If something is a later copy or a souvenir piece, we say so clearly in the description.

What We Collect

From Baltic amber to mid-century decor

Our collection covers four areas we know deeply, so every recommendation comes from hands-on experience rather than a catalogue.

  • 01

    Amber jewellery and amber products

Pendants, bead necklaces, brooches, cufflinks and carved figures made from natural Baltic amber, from honey and cognac tones to rare cherry and butterscotch varieties.

  • 02

Antique clocks, watches and small instruments

Mantel clocks, pocket watches, compasses and desk instruments, serviced by a partner watchmaker so they are ready to display or to use.

  • 03

    Vintage decor for the home

Lamps, radios, mirrors, frames and tableware from the 1920s to the 1970s, chosen to bring warmth and character to a modern interior.

  • 04

    Rare souvenirs and historical keepsakes

Travel souvenirs, commemorative pieces, porcelain, postcards and small curiosities that once marked a journey, an exhibition or a moment in history.

Amber Products

Fossil resin, forty million years in the making

Natural amber is warm to the touch, astonishingly light and never quite the same twice. We select pieces for clarity, colour and the small inclusions that make each one unique.

  • Every stone is tested for authenticity and labelled as natural, polished, or heat-treated so you always know exactly what you are buying.
  • Settings are hand-checked; vintage silver mounts are cleaned and re-tightened before a piece leaves the gallery.
  • Each piece of amber jewellery comes with a short care card explaining how to clean, store and wear it safely.

Vintage Decor

Objects that make a room feel lived in

A stained-glass lamp, a carved frame or an old radio can anchor an entire interior. We help clients choose vintage decor that suits their space, whether that is a single statement piece or a carefully built shelf of curiosities.

How It Works

From first enquiry to your display shelf

Whether you are buying your first amber pendant or adding to a long-standing antique collection, the process is the same careful four steps.

Tell us what you collect or what you are looking for, from a specific amber colour to a clock from a particular decade. We will suggest pieces from the gallery or start a search through our dealer network.

02

Authentication

Each candidate piece is examined, tested and documented. You receive photographs, condition notes and provenance details before you commit to anything.

03

Where needed, the item is cleaned and stabilised by our conservator or a trusted specialist, always preserving original materials and honest signs of age.

04

Safe delivery

Fragile items are packed in acid-free tissue and custom boxes, then hand-delivered in Tokyo or shipped fully insured anywhere in Japan.

Cognac Baltic amber teardrop pendant on an amber bead necklace

Cognac Amber Teardrop Necklace

A large teardrop pendant of polished cognac Baltic amber, hung from a hand-knotted strand of honey amber beads with floral amber accents. The pendant glows deep orange against the light and carries fine natural flow lines inside. A statement piece of amber jewellery that remains surprisingly light to wear.

Care Guide

How to care for amber, antiques and souvenirs

Most damage to collectible objects happens slowly, through light, heat, humidity and the wrong cleaning products. These simple habits keep your pieces in good condition for decades.

01

Keep amber away from heat and chemicals

Amber is soft and porous. Remove amber jewellery before applying perfume, hairspray or hand cream, never leave it in direct sun, and clean it only with lukewarm water and a soft cloth, finishing with a drop of olive oil to restore its shine.

02

Store pieces separately

Wrap amber, silver and porcelain individually in soft cloth or acid-free tissue. Harder stones and metal clasps scratch amber easily, and souvenirs packed tightly together chip at the edges.

03

Control light and humidity

Display antiques and vintage decor away from windows and radiators. Aim for a steady 40–55% humidity: wood, paper and lacquer crack when the air is too dry and develop mould when it is too damp.

04

Clean less, not more

Patina is part of an antique’s value. Dust gently with a soft brush, avoid metal polish on old brass and silver-plate, and ask a conservator before attempting any repair to a valuable piece.

Case Study

Rebuilding a family's amber collection

A box of tangled necklaces and loose beads turned out to hold three generations of family history.

"My grandmother's amber had sat in a drawer for thirty years. Amber Rocket sorted the real pieces from the souvenirs, restrung the best beads and found the original maker of her brooch. It now feels like a collection, not a box of odds and ends."

We tested every item, separating natural Baltic amber from pressed amber and plastic imitations, then documented each piece with photographs and notes. The finest beads were restrung on silk with hand-tied knots, a damaged silver brooch was conserved rather than replaced, and the family received a catalogue they can pass on with the collection.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What collectors most often ask us about amber products, antiques and caring for rare souvenirs.

How can I tell if amber is real?

Natural amber is very light, feels warm to the touch, floats in strongly salted water and glows bluish or greenish under UV light. Imitations made of glass, plastic or copal often fail one or more of these tests. We test every piece we sell and are happy to check items you already own.

Do you buy antiques and amber jewellery?

Yes. We buy single pieces and whole collections, including amber jewellery, clocks, vintage decor and historical souvenirs. Send photographs by email or book an appointment at the gallery for a free first assessment.

How should I clean amber jewellery?

Rinse it in lukewarm water with a drop of mild soap, dry it immediately with a soft cloth, and polish with a tiny amount of olive or almond oil. Never use jewellery dips, ultrasonic cleaners or alcohol-based products on amber.

Do antiques come with a certificate?

Every antique and amber item is sold with a written provenance card describing its age, origin, materials and condition. For higher-value pieces we can arrange an independent appraisal on request.

Can you help me start a collection?

Absolutely. We enjoy helping new collectors choose a focus, set a budget and avoid common mistakes, whether you are drawn to amber, antique clocks or vintage decor.

Do you ship outside Tokyo?

We hand-deliver within Tokyo and ship fully insured anywhere in Japan. Fragile items are packed in custom boxes with acid-free tissue and shock-absorbing padding.
